The Birds Island
Tiny coral ring, Tetiaroa gives a good idea of the original Eden with its white sand beaches and crystalline lagoon. It’s not surprising that Marlon Brando, its owner since 1966, fell under its spell when shooting “Mutiny on the Bounty”.
The only atoll of the Windward Islands, Tetiaroa has a 4.5-mile diameter, a world surrounded by 13 “motus” (islets) covered with coconut trees, and enclosed by coral reef. The lack of channels keeps the charm and preserved nature of this atoll intact. Among this wonderful set of islets, Tahuna Iti, the birds’ island, far from any human population, can be considered a natural reserve for sea birds. Frigates, sterns, phaetons (straw tails), brown gannets and other petrels favor this place for breeding purposes and are observed by discreet visitors.
A luxury eco-resort, The Brando, the newest resort in the Islands of Tahiti, opened in Summer 2014 with 35 luxury villas. Setting a new world standard, the resort is carbon neutral and close to self-sustainable.
